Biography

Valmir Gabriel Ortega is a geographer with over 15 years of experience in the public sector, holding leadership positions such as Superintendent of the Environment in Mato Grosso do Sul, Director of Ecosystems and Acting President of IBAMA, as well as State Secretary of the Environment of Pará. He has been involved in the formulation and implementation of environmental policies and government programs. From 2010 to 2013, he served as Program Director for the Cerrado-Pantanal region and Policy Director at Conservation International Brazil (CI-Brasil). In 2018, he led the founding of the Conexsus Institute, promoting community-based socio-environmental impact businesses focused on sustainable land use. Currently, he leads Belterra Agroflorestas, an impact-driven company dedicated to forest restoration and sustainable rural development, utilizing agroforestry systems for food production and large-scale regeneration of degraded areas.
