Willie Mpasuka

Biography

Willie Mpasuka is a visionary who educates children and trains teachers in under-resourced communities through Rays of Hope, the nonprofit he co-founded and currently leads.

Founded in 2009, it has grown from serving 40 students to reaching over 240,000 students in six education districts in Malawi through teacher training, Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL), and remediation. Rays of Hope has successfully partnered with the Malawi Government, bringing TaRL to 48 classrooms, serving 13,754 students. Initial assessments indicate improvements in numeracy and literacy, with gains of 4.8% and 5.1% respectively for grade 4 students.

Willie is a 2008-2009 Urban Promise International Fellow, a 2017 African Visionary Fellow, and a 2018 Praxis Fellow. He is also a founding member of the Global Alliance for Communities and received the 2018 Rising Star Award from the Segal Family Foundation.
