West Coast Correspondent, Devex
Catherine Cheney is the West Coast correspondent for Devex. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, she covers stories her audience of global development professionals can learn from as part of the Devex motto: “Do Good. Do It Well.”
Since graduating from Yale University, where she earned bachelor's and master's degrees in political science and graduated as a Yale Journalism Scholar, Cheney has worked for a range of publications including World Politics Review, POLITICO, and NationSwell, a media company and membership network she helped build.
Her work has taken her to countries including Venezuela, where her first international reporting trip convinced her that journalism was a path she wanted to pursue, Tanzania, Haiti, Qatar, and most recently Germany, where she has traveled several times with the support of groups including the International Center for Journalists.
Cheney also runs the Bay Area chapter for the Solutions Journalism Network, a nonprofit that supports and connects journalists who report on responses to social problems.
Through her work as a journalist, and as a connector of people and ideas, Cheney is driven by a desire to elevate those approaches that work, both when it comes to the future of global development and the future of media.
Much of her coverage focuses on the role of entrepreneurship and investment in addressing global challenges and she looks forward to meeting the people behind these ideas at the Skoll World Forum.
