[Climate Week 2020] Investor Expectations in 2021: Setting a Course for Effective Climate Lobbying

September 23, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

Investor Expectations in 2021: Setting a Course for Effective Climate Lobbying

Climate risks pose particular uncertainty to portfolios from a regulatory, economic and a reputational perspective. That’s why it is important for companies and investors to understand the role they play in corporate lobbying practices. Examples include how they are enabling policy-makers to close the ‘ambition gap’, advocating for climate-smart policy, supporting through membership in certain business organizations, and contributing to campaigns, political groups and think tanks. However, understanding what tools address risk is key, because then they can engage in climate policy and disclosure more effectively.

In this session, participants will:
– Examine tools to assist investors in climate risk assessment, such as Climate Action 100+ Net Zero Company Benchmark Framework, Ceres Blueprint for
Responsible Policy Engagement on Climate Change and various corporate lobbying letters
– Identify what success looks like, whether it is CEO engagement, new resolutions resulting from lobbying letters, lobbying disclosures, and qualifications for being
“Paris aligned,” etc.
– Outline what the 2021 proxy season and investor membership in business organizations will look like

Moderator:
Anne Kelly, Vice President, Government Relations, Ceres
Panelists:
Adam M. Kanzer, Head of Stewardship – Americas, BNP Paribas Asset Management
Morgan LaManna, Sr. Manager Investor Engagement, Ceres
Catherine Moyer, Head of North America Stewardship | Asset Management, Northern Trust
