Overview

Targeted disenfranchisement, economic inequity, health disparities, violence, and genocide are rooted in centuries of systemic racism, sexism, colonialism, and slavery.

The Skoll Foundation supports social innovations that address inter-generational oppression, remove systemic barriers that limit opportunity, and elevate oppressed voices and narratives to shift attitudes and behavior.

Narrative Creation

Color of Change designs campaigns powerful enough to end practices that hold Black people back, and champions solutions that move all of society forward.

AAPI Civic Engagement Fund fosters a culture of civic participation within Asian American and Pacific Islander communities to achieve transformational policy change.

Facing History and Ourselves uses lessons of history to challenge teachers and their students to stand up to bigotry and hate; by 2022, over 153,000 educators had used resources and training from Facing History and Ourselves in their classrooms.

Sector Coordination Across Funding Ecosystems

In its first year, Grantmakers for Girls of Color deployed $4 million to organizations focused on girls of color via three funds—Love is Healing COVID-19 Response Fund; Black Girl Freedom Fund; and the New Songs Rising Initiative focused on Indigenous communities.

Hispanics in Philanthropy created an Essential Fund, which has disbursed $2.5 million in grants to 101 organizations across 34 states to support Latinx essential workers disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

While Indigenous Peoples are on the frontlines of climate change, they face significant barriers to philanthropic support. Native Americans in Philanthropy and NDN Collective have pooled their respective energies for the Clean Energy Equity Fund to support Native-led climate and economic justice initiatives.

As a cross-cutting portfolio partner with our Strategic Initiatives office, Hyphen develops multi-sector partnerships to support effective deployment of federal resources to low-income communities and communities of color.
